Introduction

Core Facility

Description

In Vivo Imaging ACF serves the scientific needs primarily of HCEMM research groups, then academia and industrial partners. Our main output is repeated whole body, high resolution image-based radioactive concetration or fluorescent intensity data in experimental animals.

Our facility is a service-based one. This means we develop scientific questions and readout parameters with our users from scratch together. Our results are handed over in the form of measurement and data analysis results, but direct user access to make-your-own measuremets is seldom possible due to the specific nature of professional authorisations needed to operate ionizing radiation emitting equipment.

We offer the readouts of Positron Emission Tomography coupled to Nuclear Magnetic Resonance Imaging (PET-MRI) and Single Photon Emission Computed Tomography with X-ray Computed Tomography (SPECT-CT) using a Mediso nanoScan 3T MRI/PET and a Mediso nanoScan SPECT/CT system. We also have access to other small animal MRI, PET and CT systems outside the ACF including a research-dedicated clinical Mediso AnyScan Trio Three-Detector SPECT/CT/PET system for large animals or clinical studies. In the realm of optical imaging, we offer the unprecedented soft tissue penetration capabilities of a Shortwave Infrared Fluorescence Imaging System from PhotonEtc, and Vis-NIR fluorescent 2D imaging on a Neosience FOBI instrument and have access outside the ACF but in the same corridor, to a bioluminescence imaging system that can handle Cerenkov signals too. (Kodak FX).

For brain imaging activation and connectome measurements in mice, we offer the Doppler-functional ultrasound Iconeus ONE system.

Our main imaging systems are integrated into a common image-space co-registration based on animal holder fiducial markings and software-based techniques.

We have a decade of experience in radiomic data extraction of images and in the actual algorithm and code development for multidimensional large image data analysis and decision support sytems such as SPM, SVM, and PCA.
